People who love to sew and do crafts know how easy it is to make a bow out of ribbon. But if you are not used to sewing or crafting, this tutorial will show you step by step the process for making your own beautiful bows. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

To make your own ribbon bow, you will need a few simple supplies. You probably have everything you need around the house to get started right away. First, select a piece of ribbon that is either new or has been stored folded in a drawer for years and it still has not broken. If the ribbon is frayed at all, it may be too old to use on your homemade bow.

You will also need floral wire, which can be found at any craft store by the floral arrangements or in the gardening section where you find tools and soil. Wrap wire can be a little more difficult to find because many stores no longer sell it–you will most likely have to order it online from a specialty store.

Finally, you will need scissors and a glue gun with extra glue sticks to attach the ribbon ends together so that your bow stays in place. You can also use fabric glue, but this is less permanent than using the hot glue gun.

Step 2: Measure Your Ribbon

Measure out about 12 inches of ribbon to work with for your first attempt at making a bow. If you are not satisfied with how it turns out, you can always cut off the ends and try again until it looks good to you!

Step 3: Fold Ribbon into Bows

Now that your ribbon is measured out, fold the end of the ribbon up towards yourself until it forms a loop that is 5 inches tall by 4 inches wide. Glue the ribbon ends together, using the glue gun with hot glue so it dries in place.

Glue the loops together with your hot glue gun.

Step 4: Shape Your Bow

Now that your loops are glued together in a nice bow shape, you need to decide what size you would like the completed bow to be. Start by folding over one end of the bow about an inch and attach with another dab of hot glue. Do the same on the other side to form a loop at each end of your bow.

You can also use fabric glue for this step if you do not have a glue gun available.

Fold over both ends of the bow towards the center.

Step 5: Add Embellishments to Your Bow

Here is where your creativity comes into play. You can attach ribbons, bows, beads or other decorations to the center of your bow in any design you like! This step takes a little bit of trial and error until you find something that looks good enough to use. The embellishments should be attached in the center and in the loop at each end of your homemade bow.

Once you have decided on how to decorate your bow, it’s time for you to finalize the project by using hot glue from the glue gun again. Attach each decoration separately with a dab of hot glue so it does not get knocked off while being stored or used as a gift bow!

Step 6: Make More Bows!

Now that you know how to make a simple bow out of ribbon, you can practice with different size ribbons and types of wire until you perfect your technique. Then, start making some extra bows so that you have them on hand whenever you need something beautiful for gift wrapping.

Now that your own personalized handmade bows are finished, choose the color scheme for your next present or holiday surprise! You will love having these beautiful decorations around the house or office all year long. Good luck!
